The brief

I joined Finhabits at a moment of real growth. The product was expanding fast, but the design foundation was not there yet. Different freelancers had touched the app over time, and consistency across platforms was weak. Finhabits helps Latino communities in the US invest, save, and build wealth. The opportunity was big, but the product needed structure.

My role was not to redesign a few screens. It was to create the foundation the company could actually build on: a design system from scratch, a more coherent product across iOS, Android, and web, and a language that worked in both English and Spanish. That meant owning the system and the product at the same time.

Finhabits app overview

Finhabits App 2.0 unified design language, bilingual, MD3, built to scale.

The first thing I built was the system.

The product was moving too fast to keep solving the same design problems over and over. We needed a structure that could support current work and future launches without losing consistency. In less than a month, we used material design 3 to create the first version of the design system: color roles, tokens, components, and patterns that could scale across platforms and languages.

Every part of it had to do a job. It had to be flexible enough for new verticals, clear enough for users, and solid enough for the team to keep building with it. It was about making the product easier to grow.

What the product became

With the best team the product evolved. Insurance generated $409k in revenue. ITIN onboarding improved document submission from 52% to 71%. Premium users crossed 8% for the first time. Weekly subscribers jumped 71% in a single month.

Finhabits has a foundation now. A system they can keep using. A product that can keep growing. An even it has evolved, some services are offered to other businesses and the system can adapt to those changes too.
